Sohar Aluminium at SQU
Career Fair
Muscat- On 26th and 27th March
2006, Sohar Aluminium took part for the first time
in an immensely popular annual job & training
fair opened by H.E. Sheikh Hilal bin Khalid Al Maawali,
Minister of Civil Service.
This annual event attracted large
number of students who were visiting the stalls
of prospective employers, enquiring about jobs and
training, and submitting their CVs. The participants
included well known international and local companies,
public and private sector firms and businesses enterprises
representing a wide range of business activities
such as banking, financial services, oil & gas,
and manufacturing.
Sohar Aluminium wants to be considered
as an employer of choice. The company’s aim
over time is to reach the highest levels of Omanisation
for its operation. SA is establishing a detailed
recruitment and training plan that will provide
Omanis with the opportunity to acquire skills and
have attractive careers both in its smelter and
power plant.
Commenting on the fair, Tony Kinsman
CEO of Sohar Aluminium said “There’s
no better time than now to explore the possibilities
of an attractive career in the Aluminium smelting
industry in Oman”.
Mr. Kinsman added, “We are
committed to providing opportunities for talented
Omani nationals to work and develop their career
with us”.
Sohar Aluminium’s shareholders
are Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity
Authority, and Alcan. The company was established
in September 2004 to construct and operate a single
AP35 potline aluminium smelter with an associated
power plant.
The smelter is targeted to start its first production
of hot metal in 2008.
