Sohar Aluminium opens Information and Recruitment Centre in Sohar

Under the patronage of the Wali of Sohar, HE Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al-Busaidy, Sohar Aluminium celebrated the official opening of the Sohar Aluminium Information and Recruitment Centre on November 5th in Sohar.

The Information and Recruitment Centre will provide a focal point for the community to access information about the smelter, smelting process, regular project updates and job opportunities. The Information Centre includes a physical model of the smelter and associated power plant as well as simplified diagrams of the smelting process.

“The Information and Recruitment Centre will be a ‘one-stop-shop’ for people wanting to find out more about the project and about job opportunities,” said Sohar Aluminium CEO, Tony Kinsman.

“Sohar Aluminium is committed to the development of the Sohar community and the Batinah region and we look forward to opportunities where we can support a range of community initiatives.”

The official opening of the centre was followed by a guided tour of the smelter site to view the progress of the project.

The Sohar Aluminium project recently celebrated three million hours without any lost time incidents. The smelter is targeted to begin operation in 2008.

Sohar Aluminum’s shareholders are Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority, and Alcan. The company was established in September 2004 to construct and operate a single AP35 potline aluminium smelter with an associated power plant.

The smelter is targeted to start its first production of hot metal in 2008.
