H.E. Maqbool Ali Sultan, Minister of Commerce and Industry paid a private visit to the Sohar Aluminium smelter site today for an update on the project’s progress. He was treated to an overview of the company’s world-class greenfield facility which utilises Alcan AP35 smelter technology. This $2.4 billion project comprises of a 360 pot aluminium smelter potline with a  production capacity of 360,000 metric tons per year, a carbon anode plant, a metal casting facility, a port facility and state-of-the-art 1000MW power plant.

H.E. Maqbool bin Ali Bin Sultan was received at the smelter by Bruce Hall, CEO, Sohar Aluminium. His Excellency was introduced to the company’s Management Team and given a tour of smelter.

During the tour the H.E. Maqbul bin Ali Bin Sultan was shown the smelter’s casthouse and potroom A which is due for completion shortly.

H.E. Maqbul thanked the management and staff for their dedication and hard work.

Sohar Aluminium’s shareholders are Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority, and Alcan.
