صحار ألمنيوم تبلغ طاقتها الإنتاجية القصوى

Sohar Aluminium is today operating at full capacity following the successful start-up of the world’s longest single plotline (1.2km). All 360 pots operate using state-of-the-art Aluminium Pechiney technology (AP36). AP36 technology utilises larger pots which exploits a higher current to produce a larger yield, 2700kg per pot per day.

Sohar Aluminum’s Board of Directors and CEO Bruce Hall were present to witness the starting of the final pot in the series of 360.

“Sohar Aluminium serves as an example that Oman is ready for complex heavy industry and is on track to achieve his Majesty Sultan Qaboos’ vision for Oman in 2020.” Sohar Aluminium Chairman Ahmed Al Wahaibi

Sohar Aluminium CEO Bruce Hall said of the event that “This is a significant milestone not only for Sohar Aluminium as a company but also for Oman as a growing industrial force in the world economy.”

Following a revision of the start-up schedule in mid-2008, the project has been completed six weeks ahead of target and within the original project budget.

Despite the world economic climate, Sohar Aluminium will be operating at full capacity and is on track to produce 360,000 tons of aluminium in the coming 12 months. By employing the latest technology in efficient power generation and metal production, Sohar Aluminium is able to produce high grade aluminium at a lower operating cost than many older competitors. As such, Sohar Aluminium’s operations haven’t been affected by the fluctuating world markets.

Looking to the future GM Michel Huot, “Our next challenge is to stabilise our operations, develop our skills and our people to ensure that we are running the most efficient operation possible.”

Sohar Aluminium is proud of its progressive Omanisation strategy – currently boasting a workforce that consists of 65% Omani nationals.

Sohar Aluminium is currently in discussions with a number of Oman based operations to enable a greater proportion of the 360,000 tons of aluminium that will be produced annually to be processed locally. GM Dr Hilal Al Hinai explains, “By working to increase the number of downstream companies, we not only boost the local economy but also indirectly create jobs and help raise the standard of living in the region,”
