Sohar Aluminium Sponsors
Environmental Award
Muscat- Sohar Aluminium has recently
announced that it will sponsor the eighth annual
Oman Awards for excellence in the category of the
Environmental award.
The newly introduced environmental
award will recognize companies that have applied
and pursued practices that will protect the environment.
Currently at the construction
stage, Sohar Aluminium chose to sponsor this specific
award to encourage other companies to follow in
their footsteps in terms of preserving the environment.
Sohar Aluminium demonstrated their
commitment recently by working on a project of relocating
acacia trees during construction, so that these
trees continue to thrive on the site.
Commenting on the awards, Tony
Kinsman CEO of Sohar Aluminium said”At Sohar
Aluminium we are committed to Zero harm. This translates
to our company conducting business in a manner designed
to protect the environment, health and safety of
our employees, customers, suppliers and the public.”
Mr. Kinsman added, “One
of our core values and also a key performance area
is EHS. It is important therefore, to have an award
that will recognize and encourage companies that
have put in place practices and programmes that
protect the environment. We are delighted to sponsor
this initiative and we hope that it will highlight
the importance of safeguarding the environment as
one of the key criteria for business excellence.”
Sohar Aluminium’s shareholders
are Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity
Authority, and Alcan. The company was established
in September 2004 to construct and operate a single
AP35 potline Aluminium smelter with an associated
power plant.
The smelter is targeted to start its first production
of hot metal in 2008.
