Sohar Aluminium at SQU
Career Fair
Muscat- On 26th and 27th March
2007, Sohar Aluminium has taken part in the popular
Sultan Qaboos University annual Career & Training
Opportunities fair, opened on 26 March by H.E. Eng.
Salem bin Said Al Ghattami, Chairman of the Oman
Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Every year this Fair attracts students and participants
from international and local companies, public and
private sectors firms, and business enterprises
representing a wide range of business activities
such as banking, financial services, oil & gas
and manufacturing.
Sohar Aluminium wants to be considered
as an employer of choice. The company’s aim
over time is to reach the highest levels of Omanisation
for its operation. SA has established a training
plan that will provide Omanis with the opportunity
to acquire skills and have attractive careers both
in its smelter and power plant. A graduate recruitment
plan is also being developed.
Commenting on the fair, Kalat
Al Bulooshi, Human Resources GM of Sohar Aluminium
said “This is the opportunity to join a company
creating a new state-of-art aluminium smelter and
power plant”.
He added, “Our key objective
is to create skilled employment opportunities for
young Omani nationals”.
Sohar Aluminium’s shareholders
are Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity
Authority, and Alcan. The company was established
in September 2004 to construct and operate a single
AP35 potline aluminium smelter with an associated
power plant.
The smelter is targeted to start its first production
of hot metal in 2008.
