Sohar Aluminium (SA) received the Full Certification for Performance Standard V2 by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), which is a not-for-profit standard setting and certification organisation for the aluminium value chain. SA was audited against Performance Standard V2 for its smelting and Casthouse facility based in Suhar.
The ASI Performance Standard Certification defines Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium industry. The Performance Standard supports responsible supply chains within the Aluminium industry and reinforces and promotes consumer and stakeholder confidence in the aluminium sector and its products.
It provides a common standard for the aluminium value chain on environmental, social and governance performance. Areas covered within Environment include greenhouse gas emissions, effluents and waste, water stewardship and biodiversity. For Social, it focuses on human rights, labour rights, occupational health, and safety. Governance includes business integrity, policy and management, transparency, and material stewardship.
“Inspired by our ESG Strategy, Sohar Aluminium adopted and adhered to sustainable business operations and practices that played a significant role towards being awarded the ASI’s Full Certification for Performance Standard V2,” Eng. Said Al Masoudi, CEO of Sohar Aluminium said.
“Receiving ASI Certification marks an achievement that reflects our pursuit to be a world-class and pioneering industrial company while being mindful of our obligations to the local environment and our stakeholders. This certification testifies Sohar Aluminium’s commitment towards delivering Aluminium responsibly”, Al Masoudi added.
