Oman Oil Company

Through its participation in energy and energy-related projects, Oman Oil Company (OOC) plays an essential role in the Sultanate's efforts to diversify the Omani economy and helps generate Omani and foreign private sector investment. In Oman, OOC has interests in numerous projects which include gas transmission, petroleum retailing, refining, petrochemicals, (fertilizers, polypropylene, polyethylene, methanol, etc) and aluminium smelting.

 

Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA)

ADWEA is the reference partner for Sohar Aluminium's Power Station.ADWEA was established with the principal goal of managing and privatizing the water and electricity sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Since 1998, ADWEA, through an aggressive IWPP program, has developed projects with a total installed electricity and water production capacity of 7100MW and 500MIGD respectively.

 

Rio Tinto Alcan (Formerly Alcan)

Alcan will provide the AP35 technology and technology-related services for the operation of the smelter in Sohar. Alcan is the partner of reference for aluminium production and also the metal off-taker. As a multinational, market-driven company and a global leader in aluminium production and packaging, as well as in aluminium recycling, Alcan is well positioned to meet and exceed the needs of its customers for innovative solutions and services.

Smelter EPCM Contractor - Bechtel

After an open tender and careful tender review process, Bechtel was chosen as the preferred bidder for the crucial role as the EPCM contractor for the project.

Bechtel is a global engineering, construction and project management company with more than a century of experience on complex projects in challenging locations.

Privately owned with headquarters in San Francisco, the company operates from 40 offices around the world and 40,000 employees. Bechtel had revenues of US$17.4 billion in 2004 and has been the No. 1 ranked U.S. contractor six years running.

The company holds high standards of ethical business culture and has earned the reputation for adhering to these standards as one of their most valuable assets. Bechtel has a world-class safety program that has enabled the company to complete almost 90 per cent of projects each year without any lost-time injury (LTI).

The company recently successfully completed the line 5 expansion of the Alba Aluminium smelter in Bahrain.

 

 

The Power Station EPC Contractor - Alstom

After a competitive bidding process and a lengthy evaluation period, Alstom was chosen as the EPC contractor for the Power Station. This is the single largest contract to be awarded on the project. Alstom is a global player in combine-cycle Power Plant projects and the Sohar Aluminium project builds on the company's recent success with the combined-cycle plant commissioned for Aluminium Bahrain's line five smelter.
