Maximising its positive impact in community services, Sohar Aluminium (SA) conducted its novel Basma Project, now in its 4th consecutive year, on Wednesday, 23rd July 2013 in which volunteers from SA visited patients at Sohar Hospital and handed them Eid gifts.

Basma Project is an initiative of SA to bring a smile on the faces of those admitted at the Sohar hospital during the Eid Al Fitr period. This year’s initiative saw the handing over of gifts to around 300 patients including children and adults, from various wards. The patients were across the various units of Sohar Hospital such as Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Cardiology, Burns Unit, Surgical wards and Accidents & Emergency wards.

The initiative also aimed to boost the cooperation between Sohar Aluminium and the medical fraternity in Sohar. SA has previously supported Sohar Hospital through the establishment of the Training Centre and sponsoring the provision of wheelchairs. There are a number of other projects to be launched in the future as well.

SA has always been a leader when it comes to community services and employees volunteering. A large number of its employees have played impactful roles in launching community awareness campaigns and addressing the community in deeply impactful ways. Due to this high interest in volunteering activities, SA runs its own SA Volunteering Program which is tailored around the skills and talents of SA staff to support communities, build their capabilities and deliver growth and long-term value for the community of the Al Batinah Region.

Badriya Al Baloushi, one of Sohar Aluminium’s employees volunteering in this year’s Basma Project commented: “It is such a pleasant experience to bring happiness and joy to the حatients. We are humbled to have visited those admitted at the Sohar Hospital this Eid, especially those who spent a lot of time away from home.”

SA is thankful to its staff for coming forward to lend their valuable time and effort to be a part of the Basma initiative this year.

The recipients expressed their happiness and gratitude for this novel gesture at the time of Eid Al Fitr which certainly brought a smile to their faces during the festive period.

Sohar Aluminium was formed in September 2004 to undertake a landmark Greenfield aluminium smelter project in the Sultanate of Oman, and it is jointly owned by Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC - TAQA and Rio Tinto Alcan.
