On 9th of July 2013, and under the patronage of Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Sohar Aluminium (SA) announced distributing GPS devices, Life Jackets and Torches to 170 fishermen from the villages of Majees, Umq and Al Sanqar in the Wilayat of Sohar, to help them achieve higher safety standards.

The ceremony was graced by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, H.E Dr. Hamad bin Said Al Awfi and attended by the Wali of Sohar, H.E Sheikh Hilal bin Ali Al Habsi, VIPs of the North Al Batinah Region, members of the fishermen committees and officials from Sohar Aluminium.

During the event H.E Dr. Hamad bin Said Al Awfi thanked Sohar Aluminium for its constant support to the local community and announced a number of other projects that are being done with the support of Sohar Industrial Companies including SA for enhancing the conditions of this trade in Al Batinah region.

Mr Said Al Masoudi, Acting CEO of Sohar Aluminium, reiterated his organisation’s commitment towards the development of the region by saying; “We at Sohar Aluminium are committed to achieving a zero Harm environment and spreading the culture in our community; in this case by providing local fishermen with key tools to return safely to their families. This initiative is one of many Corporate Social Responsibility projects we have in the pipeline and we look forward to announcing them soon”.

SA has been renown for making a positive impact in Al Batinah by executing a number of projects such as revamping Liwa Park, constructing facilities for Al Noor Association for the Blind, establishing Sohar Hospital Training Centre, Aluminium Handicraft Training Centre and restoration and maintaining of local Falaj systems to name a few. In addition SA has also been a strong supporter for Small and Medium Enterprises and it has been well recognised in the local community for its philanthropy.
