As part of its dedication to integrity and operating responsibly, Sohar Aluminium (SA) recently unveiled the company’s seventh annual Sustainability Report during a special ceremony under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Muhanna bin Saif Al Lamki, Governor of North Al Batinah. The event, which was held during an Iftar which was attended by high profile dignitaries and executives from the public and private sectors as well as SA’s management team and staff. Representing one of the many Corporate Social Responsibility beneficiaries of SA’s community centred initiatives, the keynote speech was delivered by Mohamed bin Salim Al Musalami, Vice President of the Executive Committee of the Omani Association for the Disabled, Sohar branch.

 

Ensuring the utmost level of transparency, the SA Sustainability Report is certified and audited by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an internationally recognized independent organization that has pioneered sustainability reporting, and offers a transparent review that documents the company’s progressive approach in applying best practices in its operational model. The report provides a detailed overview of the company’s economic, environmental and social contributions and performance. Taking its efforts a step further, the highlights of the report have been published on a four page leaflet printed on recycled FSC certified paper using soy-based ink to minimise SA’s footprint on the environment while the full report can be accessed electronically on the company’s website www.sohar-aluminium.com .

The launch of Sohar Aluminium’s seventh Sustainability Report falls in line with the company’s strategy to bring wealth, prosperity and growth to the Al Batinah through excellence and ownership. It also reflects the company’s values and long-term vision, which emphasise honesty and integrity, environment, health, safety, productivity, financial strength, corporate citizenship and team work.

 

Sohar Aluminium was formed in September 2004 to undertake a landmark Greenfield aluminium smelter project in the Sultanate of Oman. It is jointly owned by Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC - TAQA and Rio Tinto.
