Sohar, May 2015 – Sohar Aluminium (SA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Social Development to build new premises for the Oman Association for Disabled (OAD) in Wilayat Sohar at a cost of OMR 110,000. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Said Al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development at the recently inaugurated Al Noor Association for the Blind building in the Wilayat. The MoU was signed by Eng. Said bin Mohammed Al Masoudi, CEO of SA and Mr Amer bin Mohammed Al Hajri, Director General of Social Development for North & South Al Batinah Governorates at the Ministry of Social Development.

 

On the occasion, Said Al Masoudi, CEO of SA, said, “Sohar Aluminium is a strong believer that each and every member of society can lead a thriving and independent life if they are given the right tools for success. We are proud to take up such a project and we hope it will not only support people with disabilities but also foster a culture of inclusion while encouraging more private sector companies to play a greater role in making a long-lasting positive impact in our communities.”

 

 

 

The new fully-equipped OAD building will serve as a training centre for the region and aims to improve the quality of life of more than 450 people with disabilities from Al Batinah North and South, Ad Dhahirah, Al Buraimi as well as Musandam Governorates. The centre will offer a wealth of training programmes including Information Technology, Talent Development, specialised training courses to meet labour market demands, arts and handicrafts lessons as well as culinary classes for ladies. Construction will break ground on 1st June 2015 and is expected to be completed in one year’s time.
