Emphasizing its commitment to promote active and healthy lifestyle among its employees, contractors and members of the surrounding communities, Sohar Aluminium (SA) held its annual Fun Run on Friday, 15th February. The event was attended by more than 700 people including the Company’s CEO, the Management Team, Employees and Contractors along with their families as well as students and teachers from three local schools in the area and Al Batinah International School (ABIS).

 

The company had collaborated with the Directorate General of Education in North Al Batinah who selected 150 students to participate and compete in the races from Ali bin Abi Talib School, Faidh Al Uloom School, Al Muthabarah School and Alfatah School from Sohar and Al Batinah School and Hafidh bin Saif School from Liwa.

 

The event that included running and walking races witnessed healthy competition with good camaraderie from the participants who enjoyed a day of fun and quality time with their colleagues and family members outside working hours.

 

Commenting at the event, Eng. Said Al Masoudi, SA’s CEO said: “at Sohar Aluminium, we have always emphasized on the importance of prioritizing the health and safety of our people, not only at their work sites, but also in their personal lives. We strongly believe that adopting an active and healthy lifestyle will always benefit us as individuals at a professional and personal levels. The annual Fun Run is one of the functions that reiterate the importance of these company values”.

 

The participants, who were divided into age groups, competed in three racing categories and two walking categories ranging between 2, 4 and 8 kilometers. At the end of the event, the Management Team awarded the winners with medals and trophies.

 

This event is one of many major annual health and safety events held by Sohar Aluminium. The company holds internal and external health campaigns and safety activities that aim at raising awareness and promoting best practices among employees, contractors and the external communities about several topics. These include the award-winning Heat Stress campaign, the celebration of World Health Day, World Heart Day and Diabetes Day. Sohar Aluminium also continuously supports and sponsors national and regional projects, events and initiatives that focus on occupational health and safety.

 

Sohar Aluminium was formed in September 2004 to undertake a landmark Greenfield aluminium smelter project in the Sultanate of Oman. It is jointly owned by Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC - TAQA and Rio Tinto.
