Adding to its impressive record of achievements and awards, Sohar Aluminium was accorded the Oman Economic Review’s (OER) “HR Excellence Award 2020” during the OER Business Summit & Awards event that was held today at the Sheraton Oman Hotel. The award was handed over by the Guest of Honour, His Excellency Talal bin Sulaiman Al Rahbi, Vice Chairman of The Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-Up Unit. Sohar Aluminium claimed the title for its outstanding “Competency Assurance Program” that focuses on the creation of individual development plans for all employees.

Commenting on winning the award, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Kharusi, Sohar Aluminium’s General Manager of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs said: “We are very proud of winning this outstanding award that crowns the company’s efforts to develop its workforce and its commitment to nurture talented employees and create opportunities for enhancing their skills, knowledge and careers through various training and development programmes.”

Sohar Aluminium’s Competency Assurance Program is divided into stages where employees at all levels are assessed based on four competencies: technical, behavioural, leadership, and generic. Each job is analysed to identify the required set of competencies based on values, expected deliverables and global best practices in similar jobs. Employees are then evaluated based on these competencies leading to identifying areas of development and then setting the individual development plans. These steps lead to the creation of a Job Competency Profile (JCP) that forms the cornerstone of any talent management intervention associated with the job, from recruitment to development and then succession planning.

Along with many local, regional, and global awards for Operations Excellence, Quality, Environment, Health and Safety, and Community Service, Sohar Aluminium has previously been recognized and won awards for its Omanisation efforts, Employee Relations in the field of Human Resources Management and Development. The company also has its own technical training institution that accommodates advanced training facilities in the manufacturing industry.
