Sohar Aluminium, undper the patronage of His Excellency Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah, celebrated the inauguration of the Science and Innovation Centre at Al Batinah International School (ABIS) in Sohar, reaffirming its commitment to advancing education and creating lasting social impact through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

The 570 sqm facility features three fully equipped laboratories dedicated to Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, along with supporting facilities and storage spaces. The lab is also expected to serve as a hub for innovation-focused activities, including scientific workshops, research projects, innovation challenges, and collaborative educational initiatives.

This project reflects Sohar Aluminium’s belief that investing in education is a key driver of Oman’s sustainable development and long-term prosperity. Beyond enhancing science education, the Science and Innovation Centre aims to strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, research, and analytical skills, while fostering a culture of curiosity and innovation among young learners. It is also designed to inspire students to pursue future pathways in science, technology, engineering, healthcare, and research, helping to build a skilled workforce that supports Oman’s transition towards a knowledge-based economy.

Commenting on the project, Eng. Said bin Mohammed Al Masoudi, Chief Executive Officer at Sohar Aluminium, said: “Through this new facility, we are developing opportunities for students to think differently, experiment boldly, and develop the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. This project reflects our commitment to educational excellence and investing in Oman’s future generations.”

Besides serving ABIS students, the facility has been envisioned as a shared educational asset that will contribute to the wider educational landscape of North Al Batinah Governorate. Through collaboration with the Directorate General of Education, the lab will provide students from public schools with access to advanced scientific resources and practical learning experiences, promoting greater educational equity and enriching learning outcomes across the governorate.

By encouraging partnerships between the education sector and industry, the facility will help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications, preparing students for future academic and professional opportunities.

Dominic Robeau, Head of Al Batinah International School, stated: “We extend our gratitude to Sohar Aluminium for its generous support and vision in delivering this exceptional learning facility. Designed as a modern learning environment, the lab will provide students with hands-on scientific experiences that encourage exploration, creativity, innovation, and a deeper understanding of scientific concepts.”

Through this project, Sohar Aluminium continues to demonstrate how strategic investments in education can bring sustainable value, empower future generations, and contribute to Oman’s national development aspirations.
