Sohar Aluminium organised the Decarbonisation and ESG Roadmap Workshop, bringing together professionals from government and private sector entities to discuss priorities and practical pathways for decarbonisation and sustainable industrial development. This workshop comes in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the Sultanate’s transition towards a more sustainable and resilient economy.

The workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging developments and identify priorities that can support the company’s decarbonisation and sustainability objectives while contributing to Oman’s broader national priorities. It also addressed a number of key issues shaping the industrial sustainability agenda, including net-zero targets, policies and regulations, carbon markets, greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency and opportunities for reducing emissions across industrial operations and value chains.

On his opening note, Eng. Said Al Masoudi, CEO of Sohar Aluminium, emphasised that the transition towards a lower-carbon economy represents both an environmental responsibility and an important consideration for the future competitiveness and strength of industry. He further highlighted that meaningful progress cannot be achieved through individual efforts alone, stressing the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing among stakeholders.

The workshop featured presentations covering Oman’s net-zero sectoral targets, relevant policies and regulations, the carbon credit market, as well as the sustainability challenges facing the aluminium industry. Sohar Aluminium’s greenhouse gas emissions and decarbonisation roadmap were also presented.

The workshop reflects Sohar Aluminium’s commitment to supporting Oman’s sustainability and economic development priorities through responsible industrial production and continuous improvement in environmental performance. It also reinforces the importance of cross-sector collaboration in translating national sustainability ambitions into practical initiatives and long-term industrial value.

As Oman advances towards the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, initiatives that bring together industry, government and other stakeholders can play an important role in supporting the development of a more sustainable, resource-efficient and resilient industrial economy.
