Sohar Aluminium and Oman India Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO) signed an agreement with Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood Care to support financing the construction of the investment building under the Association’s “Al Khair Wafi” initiative. The agreement reflects the growing role of the private sector in building development partnerships that delivers sustainable and lasting impact.
The signing ceremony was held under the patronage of H.E Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development for Family Affairs and Community Development, and attended by a number of officials from all parties and other dignitaries.
The agreement was signed by Honourary Sana bint Abdulrahman Al Khanjariya, Chairperson of the Association’s Board of Directors, and Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Kharusi, General Manager of HR and Corporate Affairs at Sohar Aluminium, and Said bin Salim Al Salmi, General Manager of People and Culture at OMIFCO.
The agreement aims to support the construction of a commercial investment building whose proceeds will be allocated entirely to the Association. The building will provide a sustainable financial resource to support the Association’s orphan sponsorship, educational, rehabilitation and social programmes, while strengthening its ability to plan and deliver its services with less reliance on donations.
The 6-storey investment building will be constructed over an area of 5492 sqm and will comprise different facilities, including offices, apartments and commercial units.
The project is expected to benefit more than 1,100 orphans across the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman by providing a stable source of income that contributes to the sustainability of care programmes and enhances the Association’s ability to respond to the evolving needs of its beneficiaries. This highlights the scale of the anticipated social impact of the project.
The investment building forms part of the Association’s broader efforts to develop a sustainable financing model for its orphan care programmes and strengthen its financial capacity and long-term sustainability. At the same time, the project represents a shift in the concept of corporate social responsibility — from short-term support towards sustainable investment — by directing contributions towards investment projects capable of generating continuous value. This approach enhances the efficiency and sustainability of resources dedicated to serving the community.
Commenting on signing this agreement, Honourary Sana bint Abdulrahman Al Khanjariya, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood Care, emphasised that the received support represents an important milestone in the development of the “Al Khair Wafi” initiative.
She added: “We are proud of our partnership with Sohar Aluminium and OMIFCO and greatly appreciate its contribution to this project. This support reflects a clear understanding of the importance of building strategic partnerships with civil society organisations and directing social responsibility towards projects that deliver sustainable impact. The sustainability of charitable work requires the development of its tools and sources of funding, and a shift from addressing immediate needs towards building resources capable of growing over time.”
Eng. Said bin Mohammed Al Masoudi, Chief Executive Officer of Sohar Aluminium, said: We believe that true social responsibility goes beyond giving — it is about creating lasting value and building partnerships that empower communities. With this vision in mind, our support for Al Rahma Association’s investment building represents more than a contribution; it is an investment in sustainable social impact.
“By developing a sustainable flow of income, the project provides the Association with a stronger a foundation to support its orphan care programmes. We hope this partnership will contribute meaningfully to Al Rahma Association’s mission, strengthen its ability to expand its programmes, and help create a lasting difference in the lives of the communities it serves” he added.
Said bin Salim Al Salmi, General Manager of People and Culture at OMIFCO, commented: OMIFCO regards social responsibility a key commitment to the community, continuously seeking sustainable partnerships with social organisations to maximise collective efforts in serving the public. Signing this agreement reflects OMIFCO’s commitment to its community investment strategy under the quality of life pillar, and we are pleased to partner with Al Rahma Association and Sohar Aluminium on this sustainable project, which supports an important segment of society and provides them with a sustainable support.
It is worth noting that the agreement represents a continuation of the evolution of the “Al Khair Wafi” initiative since its launch as a voluntary initiative by a group of female entrepreneurs to support orphans. The initiative has since evolved into an investment project aimed at creating a sustainable financial resource to support Al Rahma Association’s programmes. The agreement marks a new milestone in the project’s journey and strengthens prospects for achieving its objectives, while also highlighting the growing interest of the private sector in initiatives that combine social responsibility with financial sustainability.
