Sohar Aluminium recently celebrated the graduation of 13 Process Technicians from its various operational areas, as part of Tamkeen Leadership Programme.
Tamkeen Leadership Programme is one of the key development initiatives under Sohar Aluminium’s Qadat Al Mustaqbal (Future Leaders) programme, reaffirming the company’s commitment to nurturing national talent and strengthening leadership capabilities across its workforce.
As part of the programme participants were awarded the CMI Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Management and Leadership, accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
Tamkeen Leadership Programme adopted a comprehensive blended learning approach, combining classroom-based leadership modules, e-learning components, experiential development through Outward Bound Oman, and action learning projects supported by coaching. Approximately 70% of the programme focused on practical workplace projects, enabling participants to apply leadership and problem-solving skills to real operational challenges.
The combined development approach of Tamkeen Leadership Programme included three leadership classroom modules, e-learning components, experiential learning through Outward Bound Oman, as well as action learning projects with coaching support.
As part of their development journey, participants successfully delivered three impactful projects; Heat Recovery System for Aluminum Casting Furnace, Paste Plant Gas Consumption Optimisation During Shutdown and Tap Hole Condition Improvement.
These projects focused on improving efficiency, safety, and reliability across operations. They included recovering exhaust heat from furnaces to significantly reduce gas consumption—by up to 40% during active use and 60% when idle —along with optimising shutdown procedures and boiler standby conditions to lower energy use and costs. Additional efforts enhanced operational safety, minimised material losses, and improved process reliability in critical production areas. These projects reflect the programme’s strong emphasis on continuous improvement, operational excellence, and sustainability, while delivering tangible value to the company.
Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Kharusi, General Manager of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Sohar Aluminium, said, “Tamkeen Leadership Programme reflects our ongoing commitment to developing capable leaders from within our workforce.”
“By combining structured learning with real-world application, we empower our employees to contribute meaningfully to operational excellence, innovation, and sustainability. We are proud of the achievements of this group and their positive impact on our operations,” Al Kharusi added.
Sohar Aluminium continues to invest in structured development programmes that align with its long-term strategy, supporting employee growth while reinforcing its commitment to excellence, safety, and sustainable operations.
